Home gyms. What’s the deal?

Now that I’m done talking about how I’m basically the greatest hiker ever (for now), I would like to talk about a trend that is growing all over the CrossFit community.  A lot of people are leaving the traditional gym and creating “garage gyms” or “home gyms.”  Let’s be honest, it doesn’t take a lot to get started: a barbell, some plates and a piece of plywood, and you’re good to go.

Education. The best investment.

“An investment in knowledge pays the best interest.”
Benjamin Franklin
It’s that time of year again.  A magical time of year when a jolly fat man dances from rooftop to rooftop, people buy stuff they don’t need and claim “tis the season.”  But picture this: instead of buying another pair of nanos and another pair of Lululemon shorts maybe you should put that money towards an investment in yourself… instead of on yourself. (That joke was a bit of a stretch… but you know, I like to commit to my jokes, so stick with me).

The Gambler: Coming back to the gym after an injury.

If you train long enough you are going to get an injury. That’s the wet nasty truth. Whether your injury comes from over training, bad coaching, or just some insane accident, at some point something is going to get in your way.

Not now I’m in the “zone!”…. or Factors of focus. Part 1.

There you are, staring at the barbell. To some simply a steel weight used by jocks, to others simply another piece of “exercise equipment,” but to you, that barbell is more. It’s a piece of you, it’s a challenge. It’s mocking you and motivating you. In that instant you are one with the barbell. You are in a struggle for power. Who will win? Continue reading

Before we get into the Paleo meat and potatoes that is this article, look at that title. Look at it. Soak it in. Can we come together as a community and decide on one name? Continue reading

Personal context. “What is that Logan?” Personal context really has to do with your personal view of the world. Simply stated it is your personal biases, stereotypes and experiences that shape the way you view the world. Continue reading
